Allow Me To Introduce Myself - Thursday, December 29, 2005 12:43 PM
I got a request to introduce myself and my credentials:

I have been in the Emergency Medical Services since 1977.
I am a NYC*EMS retired Paramedic.  I also worked for Allentown EMS for 6 years.  I teach as a Paramedic Instructor at the George E. Morekirk Emergency Medicine Insitute at Lehigh Valley Hospital.  I also teach EMT's, Physician's, RN's, CPR, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, PreHospital Trauma Life Support, Advanced First Aid, Defibrillation.
I have volunteered in the hospitals in NY and have precepted many students-too many to count.

My husband is an EMT instructor at John Jay College.
My Daughter is a Staff Sargent for the Air Force in Keesler AFB, Biloxi, Mississippi
My Older son is an EMT for the FDNY*EMS
My Baby Boy is a Pfc for the Marines, currently in Pensicola, CA but soon to go to Lejune, NC.
I have 2 granddaughters and one on the way.

I'm going back to school for an education degree, might as well, I've been teaching for a long time.

So there is my life story and qualifications as expert.

Feel free to ask away but understand, as with every health issue, seek the advice of your physician.  Everyone is an individual and each case is different.  Also understand some things may not be appropriate to discuss in a public forum, with HIPPA (privacy act), and personal issues, some may feel better to discuss things in private or as a third person in the forum.  It's different than discussions for real estate, veterinary, accounting, etc.  It is a human life with issues that are legal,  life and health impacting.  I am not offering medical treatment advice, just what's available to the general public.  If one person feels it is appropriate for them, it may not be the same for the other.

So, feel free to ask and discuss, I will try my best to keep things accurate.

Thank you Wayne for allowing me to be an expert in your forum.

We need some BTLS instructors around here.  My group just traveled to Bushkill to do a BTLS class.  The PHTLS is not too popular and getting a class around here is difficult.  The last PHTLS class I took was in 1994 & there has not been one around here since.

I too still teach at LCCC in the Paramedic Program and I am still active with teaching BTLS.  We can probably get you a bridge program as a BTLS instructor, it is almost the same anyway.

Let me know if you are interested.  I spent 13 years working pt as a Paramedic and the last 3 as a flight paramedic.  I still keep my finger in the pot so to speak.

There is a group of of that teach BTLS but the class we did in Bushkill was through LCCC Luzerne County Communityt College.

Since you are in Tobyhanna you would be a hop, skip and a jump from the regular areas we teach in if you are still interested.  We routinely work areas like Thornhurst, Gouldsboro, and the Wilkes Barre - Scranton areas.

Again, please let me know one way or the other if you are interested in becoming one of our instructors.  We are a tight group, mostly life flight paramedics and nurses along with some others.  We would be glad to have you.
