Home Theater installation - Monday, June 16, 2008 8:29 AM
Hello. I'm just starting to install a home theater system in an addition. So far, I'm doing the following: cable from the house --> surge protector in --> surge protector out ---> A/V receiver in ---> HDMI out ----> HDMI in on the tv.

Problem is that I dont use a cable box. I take the cable direct into the house. The A/V receivers i've looked at dont seem to have the "Coax In" connector that I would need in order to take the cable line into the A/V receiver. The do however, have HDMI in. but that doesnt help.

Is it because the receivers are too "low end" ? is there a converter I need? or do i need to have a cable box for that configuration?

My alternative is going to be to take the cable signal direct into the TV, then take the audio out from the tv and send it to the A/V receiver. I may wire for that anyway just in case since the walls are open to the studs now.

Thanks for any input !!   (like the pun?)
